Still and Not So Still
Still and Not So Still is a dual exhibition at Playhouse on the Square featuring new work by myself and Jennifer Hyatt.
This dual exhibition features my mixed media work and the metal work of Jennifer Hyatt. Both of us have created new work that has moving parts for this exhibition at Playhouse on the Square.
I am a mixed media artist who enjoys working in painting, collage, and illustration with nature, animal characters, and humor as favorite subjects. In this exhibition, I chose several nursery rhymes to illustrate with moving components and Elizabethan animal characters as jumping jack puppets. Jennifer Hyatt is best known for her curb score found object metal work. For this show, she wanted to explore some different found object media, and use a variety of new techniques including the addition of movement into the new pieces.
Playhouse on the Square is located at 66 S. Cooper, Memphis, TN 38104, 901-726-4656. Exhibition is located in the first floor south gallery. Artwork may be viewed during opening night and regular Playhouse box office hours: Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am-5 pm and Sunday 1 pm-5 pm.
Following the pandemic I had the wonderful opportunity of showing new work at the MAX Museum in Meridian, MS. Between Us and the Sun, Beautiful Beings Be was composed of North American flora and fauna, with an emphasis on endangered species. It also included an installation of 1,000 origami cranes constructed from magazine pages and junk mail arranged in a color spectrum.
