"Bird Nerd" Birding Zine Volume 3
Zine (zeen): magazine especially: a noncommercial often homemade or online publication usually devoted to specialized and often unconventional subject matter. Merriam-Webster
Zines can also be about a subject the author is passionate about. One of my passions is birding. I started creating small 16 page zines about North American birds in 2018. All the birds in these self-published zines are from my personal bird list with factual information and personal observations on each species. The information is brief and intended to spark curiosity for further research!
Vol. Three includes the species: Red-headed woodpecker, Carolina wren, Brown-headed cowbird, Black skimmer, Blue-gray gnatchatcher, Eastern meadowlark, and Red-tailed hawk. Two species are depicted in slight anthropomorphic form (the birds are realistic but there's a comedic element added!) and five are depicted in realistic form.
My zines are photocopied, trimmed, and stapled twice on the spine. Folded size: 4.25" x 5.5". There are enough black and white areas for birding enthusiasts to color with their own color pencils. I don't recommend markers or paint as they will bleed through the paper.
More volumes will be arriving later this year, so check back later!
